Growing up as a millennial, I've always been part of a generation that's been under the microscope. Like many millennials, I've observed the differences between past generations, such as baby boomers, and the newer generation, known as Zoomers.

Millennials have been labeled, analyzed, and often misunderstood.

But as I navigated my way through the professional world, I noticed a new wave of young professionals entering the scene - Gen Z.

This sparked my curiosity. How did our quests for purpose in the workplace differ? And what could we learn from each other? Here's my take on the "Millennials vs Gen Z" debate in the context of purpose in the workplace.

A Personal Observation on Gen Z

As I observe how Gen Z approaches their work, I am reminded of a particular incident that highlights their unique perspective.

I supervise Gen Z interns and freshers in my daily work. It is fascinating to see how they approach their tasks with a sense of purpose and determination.

One day, our team received an exciting requirement that needed a lot of research and analysis. As the group brainstormed ideas, I noticed that the Gen Z interns were unafraid to question the status quo. They brought fresh perspectives and innovative ideas, challenging traditional methods and suggesting new approaches.

What struck me the most was their unwavering commitment to making a positive impact through their work. They were not interested in completing the project for the sake of it; instead, they were driven by a deep sense of purpose. They wanted to create something meaningful and contribute to the greater good.

During the implementation phase, the Gen Z interns showed a remarkable ability to learn quickly and adjust to new situations. They were eager to use new technology to make things easier and better. They learned how to use it fast and saw how it could help them reach their goals.

I feel a new wave of energy while collaborating with Gen Zs. I find their enthusiasm and innovative thinking refreshing.

Conversely, Gen Z can learn from the millennial experience. Our journey through economic downturns, our advocacy for work-life balance, and our commitment to long-term growth can offer valuable insights as they navigate their professional paths.

Many Gen Zs are eager to learn from the older generation, as they believe their age and experience can provide valuable insights. They spend time researching and seeking guidance to gain knowledge and wisdom.
